Qilinji Fm

Period:
Jurassic

Age Interval:
Middle Jurassic, J2 (TJ8).

Province:
Heilongjiang

Type Locality and Naming

It was named by the Map Compiler

Jingeng Sha (coordinator) Group of the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences under the former Ministry of Geology in 1963, and was first cited publicly by the Compiler

Jingeng Sha (coordinator) Group for the Regional Stratigraphic Chart of Heilongjiang Province in 1979. The naming locality is situated at Laogou Gully on the middle reaches of the Ermu River, a tributary of the Heilong River, with its reference section representing the N35 P15 Profile of the No. 2 Branch-line in Xiufeng Township of Tahe Town and the Beishan-Mts N35 P12 Profile 18 km from the No. 2 Branch Line of Xiufeng Township of Tahe Town, Heilongjiang Province.

Synonym: (栖林集组)

Lithology and Thickness

It is composed mainly of a set of thick-bedded conglomerates, intercalated with feldspar-gritstones and pebbly sandstones, occasionally with medium-, and fine-grained sandstones and thin layers of shales. The formation lithologically can be divided into three members, with the Lower conglomerates member being composed mainly of conglomerates, intercalated with sandstones and sandstone lenses, being of 150 m in thickness; with the Middle sandstone member consisting mainly of grey coarse-grained feldspar-sandstones, intercalated occasionally with medium-, and fine-grained sandstones, and argillaceous shales, being 300 m in thickness; and with the Upper conglomerate member consisting of thick-bedded massive conglomerates with a thickness of 150 m.

Lithology Pattern:
Aus conglomerate

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It overlies unconformably the Variscan granite massif.

Upper contact

It is in a conformable contact with the overlying Ershi'erzhan Fm

Regional extent

There are little changes in its lithology, and only in the region east of the Pangu River it changes facially into sandstones and tuffaceous clastics, intercalated with coal beds, and is distributed on the southern margin of the Heilongjiang Depression, with the exposures of the formation being found in the areas of the Greater Slovka River, Laogou Gully, Qilinji Market, Ershi'erzhan Station and North of the Siufeng Ridge.

GeoJSON

null

Fossils

Its middle part yields plant fossils as represented by Coniopteris sp. and Ginkgo sp.
